Functional skills: for those aged 7 to 10 years. English & Maths

Following exceptional results for our functional skills programme, we have decided to open support for our younger learners. With approximately 98% of those attending lessons having SEN, our 100% pass rate, means you can achieve with appropriate and expert support.

Functional skills are the fundamental English and maths that we all need for our educational and personal lives. It is impossible to go a day without using English or maths skills and a good level of understanding means that you can have more control over things like finances, communication, and a better understanding of issues that affect us all.

In 2010, nearly one in five children left primary school unable to read at the expected standard. Each child needs English and maths basic skills, whether that’s working out if they have enough pocket money to buy a comic, or if they want to participate in the local drama group. Skills such as problem-solving, communication, logical thinking and attention to detail. Simple maths skills are used every day in the form of shopping, baking and journey planning.

Every time our children use the skills they’ve acquired, it helps build their confidence and their understanding of the world and their ability to navigate it successfully.

So, even if you think your child is likely to be more practical, they will still need maths for design and technology, I.T. and science and English for music, geography and drama.

If you would like to discuss how best to help your child, please complete the form and we will be in touch. Each lesson lasts one hour and is divided into two parts, firstly English, followed by maths. Lots of fun, hands-on activities, using multi-sensory strategies to ensure what is learnt, remains learnt. There are a maximum of six learners in each group, to ensure needs are met and our learners feel listened to and when asking for help, are always satisfied. Parents or carers of our students gain access to our closed Facebook group and may attend our weekly, free online meetings to answer any questions.

Costs: £25.00 per month.

Classes will run each Wednesday – from 12 pm until 12.45 pm.
